Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a Brazilian from São Paulo - Brazil's largest city and one of the world’s most populous and dynamic urban areas - known for its gastronomic offerings, endless cultural activities, and busy nightlife. I’m currently working in the marketing department in a law firm here.
What brought you to NYC?
I first came for a vacation. New York has always been a dream, thanks to Hollywood. I also wanted (and needed) to improve my English skills, while acquiring a new personal experience. Then I was all by myself in this big, beautiful, crazy city.
What has been your best experience here?
In New York, you never know what’s going to happen. There is so much to do and see. The art scene preserves the best from around the world; you can try food from every part of the world; there are endless cultural activities, diverse group of people and the coolest music scene.
Simple things like walking the streets of New York City by yourself is amazing in itself. Every day I found myself on a new adventure.
My best experience was when I broke my barrier of fear and shyness and went alone to a nightclub to see a DJ that I love. I cannot describe the happiness I felt in that moment.
And it's hard to name just one, because every day was a challenge: braving the freezing cold, meeting new people, learning about new cultures and a different language. I must say, traveling and staying in NYC has changed my life.
What do you think of coliving?
Finding a place to stay that combines good price and great location in NYC is a real challenge. You need to have a lot of money saved up, and be able to take up different living opportunities.
I find that the best part of living in a coliving is the interaction with people. You can communicate with everybody. Also, the sense of community makes you remember that person-to-person communication nowadays is rare.
Sometimes it's a challenge to figure out everyone's personalities. But for me, that point was essential in the process of learning different cultures. This made me grow up as a person. You can be by yourself if you want, or hang out with the people in the house. Both are ok.
What's been your best experience in the time you have stayed at Outpost?
The Outpost experience was memorable and unique as a whole. It’s hard to pinpoint just one. The location of Bushwick House, being on the coolest Brooklyn neighborhood was amazing for me!
I also can say that the New Year’s party organized at the house was essential in making me feel like part of NY and Outpost. And the day that we (Simon, Amanda and Nawar) went to a karaokê bar was so funny and crazy. I miss the people from Outpost!
